Hopesay Parish Council has moved to a dot gov domain. The website is hopesayparishcouncil.gov.uk
Councillors and the Clerk now have "dot gov" emails instead of "dot org" ones. You only need to change the 3 letters 'org' to the 3 letters 'gov' in the email address. So, if you wish to email the Clerk you use clerk@hopesayparishcouncil.gov.uk and if you wish to email the Chair you use cllr.hartas@hopesayparishcouncil.gov.uk. It will take some time to work through every document and amend details from .org to .gov, please bear with us while we do this. Thank you!
This website is published and maintained by Hopesay Parish Council for everyone who lives and / or works in the parish, and for anyone who wants to find out more about Hopesay Parish Council. BLOCKED GULLIES and DRAINS - it is up to us to report them!
Shropshire Council is responsible for keeping road drains gullies and ditches clear so that water runs away freely. However, we are informed that although Shropshire Council has scheduled the checking of drains and gullies on 'main' roads in the parish in autumn / winter 2025, it can no longer undertake annual checks on every drain gully and ditch in the parish. Shropshire Council is relying on local people to report blocked drains and gullies via the Shropshire Council website 'Report It' facility.
Report a Highways fault or concern, Potholes, or a road safety issue to Roads and Highways
Report a Flooding issue, blocked drain or gully to Drainage and Flooding
Report a verge maintenance or street furniture issue to Street Care and Cleaning
Use this link Report | Shropshire Council to report an issue or if you cannot do this online please ring Shropshire Council Customer Services 0345 678 9000 or ask a neighbour or a parish councillor to report it for you.
COULD YOU BE A PARISH COUNCILLOR?
Do you think that local issues should be managed by local people? Hopesay Parish Council has 9 councillor positions but for much of the recent past it has only had 4 - 6 councillors.
We need sufficient councillors to be representative of the parish and to carry out our work. Too few councillors means people can become overwhelmed and step down. If there are not enough people left, the Unitary Council will appoint its own people to temporarily manage parish affairs. If this is not what you want please consider whether you could step up and be a parish councillor, to serve your parish.
We provide resources and training to help you become an effective councillor. Our councillors are welcoming and friendly, everyone works together to act on behalf of all residents. You will need to give a bit of time, likely 12 - 18 hours each month. And you will gain new skills, a better appreciation of the local area, and a real sense of achievement.
You will make a difference! In recent years councillors have worked to acquire and install new noticeboards and outdoor seating, have responded thoughtfully to many government consultations with potential implications for this parish, helped to retain the Waste and Recycling Centre in Craven Arms on behalf of residents, and worked to maintain multiple assets in the community - and there is more to do!
So, will you consider standing? If not you, then who?
If you would like to serve the Community by becoming a Parish Councillor, or you would like more information or to chat about this, please contact the Clerk, or the Chair. We look forward to speaking with you! The Parish Council is at its most effective when it has enough councillors to share the work - it can then make a significant difference to the well being of this parish.
